Beautiful landscapes and magnificent creatures are not the only things that take your breath away in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The harsh, rugged, and in some places death-defying terrain can also make your heart beat a little faster. But for scientists and volunteers taking part in the Australian Geographic Society’s 10th Scientific Expedition, cruising these roads for herps is an important part of the daily data collection. Journalist Gemma Black from 4×4 Magazine helped Orianne Society scientists, Christina Castellano and Sean Doody, along with their colleagues, navigate through their study sites in exchange for hands-on time with species facing an uncertain future.
